VMAs Wrap Up

by ssjrem

I don’t have a huge paper due tomorrow or class in less than half an hour or anything like that. I definitely have time to waste writing a blog about something stupid. Yeah, definitely. I figured I may as well get to this while it’s still news and people still care. Or have they already moved on? Anyway, I didn’t even watch the whole thing, but here are my thoughts on how it went.

The show opened with a huge, overly extravagant, too-long-for-its-good tribute to Michael Jackson. Yes, I realize all the contributions he made to music and the ridiculous amount of records he sold, but I thought it was a little much to be honest. I don’t understand how just because he’s died, everyone has swept everything bad he was ever accused of under the rug. Not that I’m saying he did or didn’t do anything; I’m just saying that people, especially Madonna in her speech to open the show, are treating him like some sort of god or king. I can’t agree. Just my two cents.

Anyway, the night did get off to a pretty good start and all. One of the first awards presented was the one for best female video. Taylor Swift won for “You Belong With Me.” I don’t think it was a particularly great video, but it was probably the best among the nominees. Personally, I would have given the award to “Poker Face” by Lady Gaga. Anyway, though, Taylor’s being all shy and shit accepting her award and starting her speech. Out of nowhere, Kanye West, the gay fish that he is, barges onto the stage and interrupts Taylor’s speech. He takes the microphone and says that Beyonce had “one of the best videos of all time.” He then leaves, having completely disrespected Taylor. Now, honestly, I do think that Kanye West makes some good music, but the man is just an asshole. He is so damn cocky. Maybe he thought he was paying Beyonce some sort of compliment, but instead, he completely ruined Taylor’s moment. He is a gay fish. If you don’t get what I just said, you should start watching South Park. I’d be a clip up, but Viacom are being assholes and I can’t find one that’s still up. So, happy hunting.

The show had a number of performances, but if there was an award for the best one, then I have to give it to Lady Gaga. Say what you will, Gaga knows what she is doing and is probably the most successful attention whore of all time. Her performance of her song “Paparazzi” was so ridiculously over the top…. I don’t really know what to say. It actually got a little disturbing. Gaga really is an extremely strange person and her fashion and choices of outfits are so far out there that I’m surprised she’s as popular as she is. She also won the award for best new artist, which she easily deserved over the other garbage nominated for that award. If 3OH!3 won that, I would’ve hurled my TV in a fucking wall. That “band” is such complete shit I don’t even words for it.

Later, when Beyonce won for video of the year, which is a complete joke because there is not a damn special thing about her video, she took the award, said a few awards, and then invited Taylor Swift to come back on stage and have her moment. I don’t like Beyonce’s music at all and I don’t think she deserved the award, but I have to give it up to her for doing that. It was very classy. And when Taylor finished her speech, Kanye was nowhere to be seen. It was hilarious watching the show and everytime Kanye was nominated for an award, the crowd booed him. Like I said, Kanye West is a gay fish.

The VMAs are completely ridiculous. I’m somewhat ashamed that I even watched them at all. But I cannot help myself sometimes when it comes to things like this. The show certainly didn’t disappoint. I would’ve loved to put up some clips from the show, but as I said, Viacom are being little bitches and taking down everything that was uploaded to Youtube. Oh well. So, yeah, those are basically my thoughts on the whole thing. Oh yeah, for all the Twilight fans out there, they debuted a new trailer for New Moon. The frenzy is growing even more and I really think this movie will do some crazy shit at the box office. I’m going to upload the trailer now, but if it’s taken down by the time you read this, blame Summit or Viacom, not me. I’m sure you could find it easily enough anyway.

Until we meet again.
